Superconducting tunnel junction fabrication on three-dimensional topography based on direct laser writing
2020
Superconducting junctions are widely used in a multitude of applications ranging from quantum information science and sensing to solidstate cooling. Traditionally, such devices must be fabricated on flat substrates using standard lithographic techniques. In this study, we demonstrate a highly versatile method that allows for superconducting junctions to be fabricated on a more complex topography. It is based on maskless direct laser writing and two-photon lithography, which allows writing in 3D space. We show that high-quality normal metal–insulator–superconductor tunnel junctions can be fabricated on top of a 20-lm-tall three-dimensional topography. Combined with conformal resist coating m…

Spin transport in ferromagnetic/normal-metal tunnel junction arrays
2012
Published version of an article in the journal: Physical Review B. Also available from the publisher:http://dx.doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevB.85.094421 An array of alternating ferromagnetic and normal-metal islands separated by small tunnel junctions is theoretically investigated in the sequential tunneling regime. A numerical Monte Carlo method is used to calculate the transport properties. The spin-dependent tunneling currents give rise to nonequilibrium spin accumulation on the normal island. The tunneling magneto resistance (TMR) is calculated for a large range of array parameters. The TMR oscillates with bias voltage and can become negative for certain array parameters. We show that the long…

Magneto-Transport Results in Alq3 Based OSVs
2015
The achievement of good magnetoresistance signal at room temperature is an important requirement for the possible future development of organic devices for applications. However, until now only few works reported room temperature MR effect in organic spin valves (OSVs). In this regard, this chapter is dedicated to the investigation of Alq3-based OSVs where Alq3 molecule was chosen since it is a standard material in the field. A systematic study on Co/Alq3/Co OSVs will be presented showing room temperature MR results. Moreover, inelastic electron tunneling spectroscopy (IETS) technique will be used to prove spin injection into the organic layer. Finally, an insulating oxide barrier (Al2O3 or…
Probing magnetism in 2D van der Waals crystalline insulators via electron tunneling
2018
Magnetic insulators are a key resource for next-generation spintronic and topological devices. The family of layered metal halides promises varied magnetic states, including ultrathin insulating multiferroics, spin liquids, and ferromagnets, but device-oriented characterization methods are needed to unlock their potential. Here, we report tunneling through the layered magnetic insulator CrI₃ as a function of temperature and applied magnetic field. We electrically detect the magnetic ground state and interlayer coupling and observe a fieldinducedmetamagnetic transition. The metamagnetic transition results in magnetoresistances of 95, 300, and 550% for bilayer, trilayer, and tetralayer CrI₃ bar…
Binding Behavior of Carbonmonoxide to Gold Atoms on Ag(001)
2020
AbstractThe adsorption behavior of single CO molecules at 4 K bound to Au adatoms on a Ag(001) metal surface is studied with scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and inelastic electron tunneling spectroscopy (IETS). In contrast to earlier observations two different binding configurations are observed—one on top of a Au adatom and the other one adsorbed laterally to Au on Ag(001). Moreover, IETS reveals different low-energy vibrational energies for the two binding sites as compared to the one for a single CO molecule bound to Ag(001). Density functional theory (DFT) calculations of the adsorption energies, the diffusion barriers, and the vibrational frequencies of the CO molecule on the diffe…
